Origin & Story

Europe, mid-20th century

The Balalaika — named after the Russian triangular string instrument — is one of the IBA's Official Cocktails, yet it remains relatively obscure outside classic cocktail circles. Its formula (spirit, triple sec, lemon) is identical in structure to the Sidecar and the Margarita, making it one of the clearest demonstrations of how a single cocktail template can be applied across different base spirits.
