Origin & Story

United States, early 20th century

Cameron's Kick appeared in Harry MacElhone's 1922 cocktail guide and has puzzled drinkers ever since with its unlikely marriage of two whiskies. The equal-parts Irish and Scotch provide contrasting sweetness and smoke; orgeat — the almond syrup from New Orleans punch culture — softens both; and lemon keeps the whole combination crisp. It's a textbook example of early-20th-century American ingenuity.
