Origin & Story
Marcovaldo Diaz created the Chartreuse Swizzle at the Cigar Bar & Grill in San Francisco in 2003, seeking to showcase Green Chartreuse — the 130-herb French liqueur made by Carthusian monks — in a tropical context that could introduce a difficult spirit to new drinkers. The swizzle technique (vigorously churning with a bar spoon or swizzle stick through crushed ice) chills the drink while diluting the Chartreuse just enough to let its astonishing complexity emerge without overwhelming heat.
