A pretty, pink vodka highball layered with sweet orange juice and tart cranberry — the well-balanced cousin of the Cape Codder.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz vodka
- 3 oz cranberry juice
- 1 oz orange juice
- Lime wedge, to garnish
Instructions
- 1Fill a highball glass with ice.
- 2Add vodka and cranberry juice.
- 3Float orange juice on top, garnish with a lime wedge, and stir before drinking.
Origin & Story
Named after the colorful cotton fabric from southern India, the Madras took its pink-and-orange hue from the combination of cranberry and orange juice. It rose alongside other fruity vodka highballs in American bars during the cranberry juice boom of the 1980s, often marketed by Ocean Spray alongside the Cape Codder and Sea Breeze.
