Ingredients
- 2 oz aged rum
- 0.5 oz orange curaçao
- 0.5 oz orgeat syrup
- 0.75 oz fresh lime juice
- Mint sprig, to garnish
Instructions
- 1Add rum, orange curaçao, orgeat, and lime juice to a shaker with ice.
- 2Shake until well chilled.
- 3Strain into a rocks glass over crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig and lime shell.

Oakland, California, 1944
Victor "Trader Vic" Bergeron claimed to have created it for friends visiting from Tahiti, one of whom reportedly tasted it and exclaimed 'Mai tai — roa ae,' Tahitian for 'out of this world — the best,' giving the drink its name.
