Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz fresh espresso, cooled
  • 0.5 oz coffee liqueur
  • 0.25 oz simple syrup
  • 3 coffee beans, to garnish

Instructions

  1. 1Combine vodka, espresso, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup in a shaker with ice.
  2. 2Shake vigorously until frothy.
  3. 3Double strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with coffee beans.

London, 1980s

Legendary bartender Dick Bradsell created it at a London bar after a customer (reportedly a young model) asked for a drink that would "wake me up, then f*** me up"; he shook vodka with fresh espresso and coffee liqueur on the spot.
