Irish Coffee

Hot coffee spiked with Irish whiskey and brown sugar, finished with a float of lightly whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Irish whiskey
  • 4 oz hot brewed coffee
  • 1–2 tsp brown sugar
  • Lightly whipped cream, to top

Instructions

  1. 1Warm a heatproof glass or Irish coffee mug.
  2. 2Add brown sugar and hot coffee, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  3. 3Add the Irish whiskey and stir to combine.
  4. 4Gently float lightly whipped cream on top and serve without stirring.

Chef Joe Sheridan is credited with warming up cold, weary transatlantic flying-boat passengers with coffee spiked with Irish whiskey and cream, a recipe later brought to San Francisco's Buena Vista Cafe in the 1950s.
