Origin & Story

Britain/United States, early 20th century

Sloe gin is made by infusing gin with sloe berries — the small, astringent fruit of the blackthorn bush — and sugar, producing a ruby-red liqueur with a distinctive tart-sweet berry character. Americans discovered it through Prohibition-era imports and quickly adapted it into the Fizz format, producing one of the most visually striking drinks behind the bar.
