Gibson
A bone-dry gin martini distinguished by a single, briny cocktail onion in place of the usual olive or twist.

Ingredients
- 2.5 oz gin
- 0.5 oz dry vermouth
- Cocktail onion, to garnish
Instructions
- 1Add gin and dry vermouth to a mixing glass with ice.
- 2Stir until well chilled.
- 3Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a cocktail onion.
Origin & Story
Several men named Gibson have been credited with inventing it — most plausibly Charles Dana Gibson, the illustrator behind the Gibson Girl, who allegedly asked a bartender to swap the olive for a cocktail onion at a New York club. Whatever the true origin, the cocktail onion has been its defining marker ever since, giving the Gibson an unmistakably savory edge that the standard martini lacks.
