Origin & Story

Córdoba, Spain, 1884

Federico Vargas, owner of Los Gabrieles bar in La Rambla, Córdoba, claims his grandfather created Tinto de Verano in 1884 by mixing house wine with a lemon soda called La Casera. It became the quintessential summer drink in Spain — ordered at every terrace bar from June through September — and arguably more beloved by everyday Spaniards than sangria, which they often consider a tourist drink.
